PRESS RELEASE

The following decisions were adopted on the issues considered at the June 23, 2005, meeting of the Government of the Russian Federation:

2. Concerning the Draft Federal Laws on the Provision of Access to Information on the Activities of State Bodies and Bodies of Local Self-government, on Introducing Amendments to the Russian Federation Code of Administrative Violations and on Introducing Amendments to Articles 38 and 38 of the Law of the Russian Federation on the Mass Media

The Government took note of the report of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade on the matter.

The meeting principally approved the Draft Federal Laws on the Provision of Access to Information on the Activities of State Bodies and Bodies of Local Self-government, on Introducing Amendments to the Russian Federation Code of Administrative Violations and on Introducing Amendments to Articles 38 and 38 of the Law of the Russian Federation on the Mass Media.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in conjunction with the Ministry of Information and Communications and with participation by the State Legal Department of the Office of the President of the Russian Federation has been instructed to additionally work through the Draft Federal Law on the Provision of Access to Information on the Activities of State Bodies and Bodies of Local Self-government, bearing in mind:

- to specify the list of information on the activities of state bodies and bodies of local self-government that is placed in public access information systems; and

- to unfold content of methods of providing access to information on the activities of state bodies and bodies of local self-government.

The specified draft federal law has to be presented to the Government of the Russian Federation before June 30, 2005 for its introduction into the State Duma.
