Report of the Law Section

 

At the IAMCR Conference "Knowledge Societies for All: Media and Communication Strategies" in Cairo, Egypt on July 24-27, 2006 the Law Section has discussed the following reports:

·        Mohammad Sahid Ullah. Amendment Proposal of Bangladesh Press Council Act: In Quest of Free and Responsible Journalism;

·        Madalena Oliveira. The institution of ombudsmen for public radio and TV broadcasters: a metajournalistic argument against the decadency of audiovisual mass media;

·        Pieter J. Fourie. Moral philosophy as a threat to freedom of expression: From Christian-nationalism to ubuntuism as a normative framework for media regulation, practice and performance in South Africa;

·        Chris Paterson. The Failure of International Law in the Protection of Media Workers in Iraq; 

·        Seung Sun Lee, Gyong Ho Kim. Online Freedom of Speech in South Korea.

Business meeting of the section elected Mohammad Sahid Ullah as Deputy Section Head. Mohammad Sahid Ullah is Assistant Professor of the Department of Communication and Journalism at Chittagong University in Bangladesh.

The overall number of participants at the Section meetings was 15 from 11 countries.
